Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been chosen as the captain of Kings XI Punjab for IPL 11. The league franchise announced the same. Ashwin was picked up for a price of Rs 7.60 crore at the auction.
Ashwin takes over from Glenn Maxwell, who has been signed by Delhi Daredevils. "There is no additional pressure on me as such. I first led my state side in first class cricket when I was 21. I have done it in the past and I am sure that I will enjoy the challenge," Ashwin was quoted as saying in a Cricbuzz report.
"I feel honoured to be trusted with the responsibility of leading such a talented bunch of cricketers I am confident of bringing out the best out of team mates. This is indeed a proud moment for me,” Ashwin further said.
Playing primarily for CSK in the IPL, Ashwin has claimed 100 wickets at an average of 25 and an economy of 6.55.
