Mumbai Indians defeated Pune Warriors by 21 runs at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Asked to bat first after losing the toss, Mumbai Indians were in a spot of bother at 96 for 4 in the 15th over before T Suman came up with a crucial knock of 36 from 16 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes to lift them to 160 for 7. Leg Spinner Rahul Sharma was superb giving away only 7 runs and capturing two wickets in his 4 overs for Pune Warriors to get the Man of the Match. However, Rahul Sharma's efforts went in vain as his team displayed yet another poor show with the bat to finish at a below par 139 for 7.
Opener Manish Pandey was the top scorer for Pune with 59 from 47 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes which was no way sufficient to put his side in a winning position. Lasith Malinga was once again the successful bowler for Mumbai Indians taking three wickets.
